Abstract
Excitation of acoustic shear waves by electromagnetic radiation has been observed in single crystal aluminium samples. The sample acts as an acoustic resonant cavity excited by strongly attenuated helicon waves. Quantum oscillations have been observed in the r.f. impedance of the sample.
