Abstract

Helene Stöcker (1869–1943), a radical pacifist in Germany, sought cooperation between widely divergent groups, created allies through the force of her conviction, and refused to compromise on her absolute pacifism. Cited for her work in sex reform, Stöcker played a leading role in the German peace movement and in the War Resisters' International. Her feminist position is interesting for rejecting claims about the redemptive role of newly enfranchised women in politics while retaining maternalist values.
