Abstract
This chapter presents an overview on the scientific concept of tradition and esoteric traditions in German historiography of the 19th century. The construction of tradition is a key topic of esotericism research and a central feature of their subject. At the same time the concept of tradition is not limited to the esoteric context. The idea of tradition is one of the universal concepts every thought which designed continuities in a historical sense. The chapter discusses the analysis of constructions of a conflict between science and esoteric. Esoteric tradition formation is thus surrounded by many competitions. A history of culture is not to provide the outstanding individual at the center, but the awareness of human groups, as it were, collective individuals.
