Abstract

In brief Enlargements at the calcaneal brief attachment of the Achilles tendon can cause heel pain. These bumps usually result from rigid, poorly fitting heel counters and are more likely to occur in patients who have a prominent posterosuperior portion of the calcaneus (Haglund's deformity). Extrinsic irritation on this prominence can give rise to bursitis or Achilles tendinitis (Haglund's disease).
