Abstract

Abstract This article deals with problems related to the use of different weight systems in international relations during the Late Bronze Age. Three case-studies have been chosen: the compensation for the murder of foreign merchants in Ugarit (“the Karkemish shekel”); the reimbursement of a debt at Emar (“the big weight of the country of Subaru”); the tribute of the king of Ugarit to the king of Hatti (“the heavy Hittite shekel”).
