Abstract
We model QCD confinement by using the massless relativistic string that decays according to a simple covariant Poisson law. We explore the implications of the model and arrive at a heavy-quark fragmentation function which depends on only one parameter. We compare the resulting fragmentation function with data and other models and show how, unlike other string-based model, it exhibits the limiting behavior expected from general kinematic arguments and perturbative QCD.
