Abstract

Question: A 16-year-old boy was admitted to the hospital with a 3-day history of dizziness, tiredness, and instability while walking. His medical history and familial history were unremarkable. The patient did not smoke and did not use any medication, such as nonsteroidal inflammatory drugs. Clinical examination was completely normal, apart from slight tachycardia. Laboratory findings showed a low hemoglobin value of 6.2 g/dL, for which he received a blood transfusion. Subsequent gastroduodenoscopy showed a fundic mass extending to the gastroesophageal junction, with a central ulceration, explaining the bleeding and subsequent low hemoglobin value (Figure A).
