Abstract
Recent work on the Hubbard model is reviewed. What occur in the Mott-transition region are the formation of the Gutzwiller heavy-electron band within the Mott-Hubbard gap, and magnetic or superconducting instability of heavy-electron liquids by exchange interactions. Application to high-temperature superconductivity in the cuprate oxides is presented.
