Abstract
Computer programs that predict HVAC system noise are now common. But, what was the basis of the design of the programs, what are the noise control assumptions? This paper will present how the 1984 ASHRAE Chapter 37 Sound and Vibration from the Systems Handbook was converted into a computer program and the limitations that were found in the chapter and how they were modified to more accurately predict the HVAC system noise and it control. This program has been updated 4 times over the years and is now an EXCEL bolt on.
