Abstract
Heat treatment is performed to change the properties metals and alloy systems. The main intention of this research work is to study the effect of heat treatment on lead metal castings and hence to analyze and compare the properties of as cast lead castings. The importance of this work is to identify the difference between the usage of different type of quenching medium, and the effect of the quenching medium on the properties of lead castings. In this work, hardness and tensile test results are determined and analyzed after the heat treating operations on lead castings like annealing, normalizing and quenching on using three different types of quenching medium such as normal water, salt water and oil. A comparative study has been conducted between the non heat treated to the heat treated lead castings.
