Abstract

The authors report new measurements of the effective thermal conductivity K{sub eff} and relaxation time {tau} in dilute mixtures of {sup 3}He in superfluid {sup 4}He, with molar concentrations X {le} 10{sup -3}. The temperature range extended from T {approx} 1.4 K to T{sub {lambda}}. Both K{sub eff} and {tau} are found to agree with theoretical predictions, in contrast to previous experiments where significant differences were observed. A new thermal conductivity cell design was used which almost completely eliminates extraneous volumes and surfaces, and the earlier results are explained in relation to these design changes.
