Abstract

Following the film-penetration theory for mass transfer, originally developed by Toor and Marchello, a mechanism of heat transfer between fluidized beds and wall surfaces is proposed which includes both steady state conduction of heat through an emulsion layer at the wall and the unsteady-state absorption of heat by emulsion elements. A criterion is developed to suggest which mechanism controls, and the measured data are then compared with predictions of the bubbling bed model.
