Abstract

The effect of shearing on the eonvective heat transfer from a heater immersed in a vertical granular flaw in a channel was investigated experimentally. Comparisons were made with previous experimental and semiempirical results. Experiments were performed with smooth and rough wall conditions in order to examine the influence of boundaries on the shear rate, medium density, and particle agitation. The results indicated that the medium density adjacent to the wall played a critical role in determining the overall heat transfer.
