Abstract

This paper analyzes heat transfer in steady rotatory flow of Bingham material between two coaxial cylinders such that the inner cylinder is at rest while the outer cylinder is rotating with a constant angular velocity. The heat energy equation admits an exact solution and the temperature distributions are found to depend on the ratio of the radii of two cylinders, the position of yield surface and the Brinkman number. The effect of dissipation is to increase the temperature at a place. A critical value of the Brinkman number, above or below which the heating or cooling of the inner cylinder takes place, is found.
