Abstract

Heat transfer coefficient in gravity controlled condensation on a horizontal tube is enhanced by coiling a wire around the tube, because the condensate film between the coiled wires thins. An analytical solution is derived form simplified simultaneous differntial equations. Two coefficients which are contained in the solution are determined from experimental results for RII and ethanol vapours. Maximum heat transfer coefficient is obtained at the ratio of pitch to diameter of wire equal to two, and the increment ratio to a smooth tube is inversely proportioinal to one-fourth power of capillary constant. The present device will be usuful to the condenser for organic substances.
