Abstract

Natural convection of water with density inversion is investigated numerically. The calculation region is rectangular, and its lower temperature wall is kept at 0° C. The higher wall temperature is between 1° C and 12° C. The length of a vertical wall is less than 10 cm. The ratio of the horizontal length to the vertical wall length is between 0.2 to 1.5. The average Nusselt number of a vertical wall is characterized by a density function, a Galilei number and an equivalent aspect ratio. Using these parameters appropriately, simple correlations among average heat-transfer rates and other conditions are obtained
