Abstract

We will investigate heat transfer between a log cabin and a surrounding brush fire. We will assume the pine wood logs of the cabin to be semi-infinite solids. One-dimensional transient conduction heat transfer in a semi-infinite solid with combined convection and radiation heat transfers at pine wood log cabins surface will be used. There is a constant surface convection and radiation heat transfer from burning brush applied suddenly at X = 0 surface as shown in Figure 16-1. Applicable partial differential equation and initial and boundary conditions are given in Equations 16-1.
