Abstract

The 3-D self-oscillating flow and temperature fields in channels with periodically arranged winglet vortex generators (WVG) in transitional flow, Re = 500, are presented and discussed. The necessary conditions for streamwise and spanwise periodicity of flow and temperature field are investigated experimentally. Since experimental heat transfer data for thermally periodically developed transitional flow in channels with WVG were not available before, numerical and experimental values for time averaged local heat transfer coefficients and flow losses are directly compared for the first time. Good agreement of heat transfer coefficients and flow losses will be shown.
