Abstract
The heat source density in a laser ruby is calculated by numerical integration of the pumping and absorption spectra. The heat source density can be represented approximately by the formula q(r) = =q1 + q2 I0 (ξr/r0), which can be used to determine the temperature distribution in the crystal for typical pumping and cooling conditions.
