Abstract
The relationships between the strength of a heat seal and the thickness of beads formed as a result of material flow from under the heat seal bar are continuous and often linear. Parabolic relationships resulting from increased thicknesses with decreased strengths are indicative of poor heat seals. Heat sealing temperatures and conditioning of the heat seals in boiling water affect the strength of the heat seals and the shape of the thickness—strength curves.
