Abstract

The centuries-old problem of heat-related illness persists, despite our increasingly detailed and extensive knowledge of effective interventions and groups at risk. Substantial heat waves in the United States may claim thousands of lives. What are the reasons for our apparent inability to deal effectively with this (theoretically) entirely preventable cause of fatal illness?
