Abstract
Mean bond dissociation energy values, (Ta–Me)= 261 ± 6 kJ mol–1(62 ± 2 kcal mol–1) and (W–Me)= 159 ± 7 kJ mol–1(38 ± 2 kcal mol–1) have been derived from the heats of formation, ΔHf°(TaMe5, liq.)= 169·8 ± 26 kJ mol–1 and ΔHf(WMe6, liq.)= 738·7 ± 34 kJ mol–1, obtained from measurement of the heats of hydrolysis of solutions of TaMe5 and WMe6.
