Abstract
The paper is a report of an experimental investigation into heat transfer to mercury and water from closely packed rods. Thermal modelling problems are discussed, figures are given for the temperature field of the heat exchange surface and the rigs, test procedure and analysis are described. An approximate heat transfer calculation method is suggested for a particular arrangement of closely packed rods.
