Abstract
A twin calorimeter has been developed which makes it possible to measure the total heat effect of an electrochemical reaction and, at the same time and separately, the heat effect associated with the cathodic reaction and the anodic reaction. Each electrode is contained in a vacuum jacketed compartment; the two compartments are separated by a filter paper partition. To avoid thermoelectric effects the two compartments are maintained at the same temperature during the electrolysis.
