Abstract

The heat capacity measurements were carried out on a glassy sample of GeSe 2 using an adiabatic calorimeter in the temperature range from 13 to 300 K. The heat capacity data were compared with those previously measured on the crystalline GeSe 2. The heat capacity value of the glassy GeSe 2 was smaller than that of the crystalline GeSe 2 below about 60 K, vice versa above it. The crossing phenomenon of the heat capacity curves was discussed on the basis of the density-of-states in the lattice vibrations, and a difference was pointed out in the long-range ordering in their layered structures.
