Abstract

Analytical techniques used in voiceprint identification have been shown to give promise in the diagnosis of cardiovascular and other body sounds. This paper reports initial experimental observations in the diagnosis of aortic and pulmonic stenosis. Other potential uses are in the (1) determination of type and results of cleft-palate repair, (2) classification of voice changes occurring during asthmatic attacks, (3) estimation of the type and extent of eustachian-tube disease, (4) early detection of exacerbation of certain psychiatric (schizophrinic) states. The quantized spectral-pattern matching techniques used lend themselves to automated diagnosis as well as to teaching.
