Abstract

Heart-rate and ventilation curves during recovery from heavy exercise in 10 trained and 10 untrained individuals, were found to be composed of a rapid and of a slow component, both exponential in character. The half-time constants of the rapid components of heart-rate and ventilation recovery curves were determined. The trained individuals were found to have lower recovery constants than untrained ones, the difference being statistically significant.
