Abstract

All infants should be screened for hearing impairment, according to a 15-member expert panel. The panel based its decision on recent advances in technology that have improved screening methods and that enable identification of hearing impairments in infants soon after birth. This recommendation was made in a report by a panel of experts who considered scientific evidence presented at a Consensus Development Conference at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
