Abstract

PreviewRecent advances in technology have made hearing aids more acceptable to patients than ever before. Yet, less than one fourth of Americans with hearing loss own a hearing aid. The authors believe that primary care physicians can play a major role in detecting hearing loss and in providing guidance to the hearing- impaired. Early diagnosis, patient motivation, and proper selection and fitting of amplification are keys to hearing aid success.
