Abstract

The U.S. Army's ability to meet the challenges set before it is hinged on three components: superb soldiers and leaders, weapons and equipment equal to the requirements established, and a doctrine that is on the one hand sound and on the other hand understood. The Army's doctrine is set on the foundation of the Principles of War, a collection of logical ideas governing the prosecution of war. Developing the ability to apply these Principles to health service support concepts is required to enable the Army Medical Department to be successful in combat and during peacetime.
