Abstract

Policy opportunities exist in the U.S. to pursue initiatives that can help protect young people [1–4]. This commentary explores the terrain of what is at stake for the health, safety, and well-being of adolescents and young adults (AYAs) in 2021 and beyond. First, we place AYA health within a broad context, exploring the overarching current challenges of COVID-19, systemic racism, and climate change along with the role of social determinants of health (SDHs) in overcoming these challenges and achieving health equity.
