Abstract

In common with other European countries, the UK has an ageing population. Over the past 25 years, the number of people over the age of 65 years increased by 1.5 million. This trend is likely to continue and by 2033, 23% of the population will be over the age of 65 years. An ageing population will bring increased demands on primary care. This article explores the ways that GPs can help this important sector of our practice population remain healthy in old age.
