Abstract
This chapter discusses the role of health technology in mental health nursing, in light of some real examples. It deals with an overview of how health technology has been defined in the literature. The chapter describes health technology solutions which have been used in mental health care. It also describes the benefits, problems, barriers and prerequisites in the use of health technology, in light of examples found in the literature. The chapter identifies the necessity for users’ involvement in designing, developing and evaluating health technology in mental health nursing. Health technology assessment (HTA) covers medical, social, economic and ethical issues. HTA provides policy makers with objective information about technology use and its benefits. The use of health technology is a controversial issue in mental health care. Some people think that health care technology cannot have a prominent role in nursing because it takes time away from direct patient care.
