Abstract

ABSTRACTThe author describes her involvement in developing Health at Every Size (HAES). A clinical social worker and former child of the sixties, she gave up on dieting and became a size acceptance activist and leader of National Association to Advance Fat Acceptance (NAAFA), founding member of the first HAES organization (the Association for the Health Enrichment of Large People [AHELP]), and member and leader of the second organization (Association for Size Diversity and Health [ASDAH]). Some of the people, research, and ideas she encountered on the way are presented.
