Abstract
This entry describes communication perspectives on health activism and health social movements. The entry defines and conceptualizes health activism, including different issue foci and political orientations. Communication research highlights the discursive strategies of health activists, including diagnostic, prognostic, and motivational framing, building identification, and selecting forms of organizing and advocacy tactics.
