Abstract
In this paper the mechanism of CrO 2 video tape headwear is described. In tapes which contain only CrO 2 , headwear increases with increasing hardness of the coating. Hardness is characterized by the Young's modulus. By employing the soft ZnO pigment in magnetic CrO 2 tapes, it is possible to regulate headwear (H.W.) in the desired range of 0.5 2 /ZnO results in the unique situation of low headwear, no rubbing noise and no head clogging problems.
