Abstract

ABSTRACT Hay blossom extracts were analyzed by preparative TLC, GC, GC/MS, GC/FTIR and other modern analytical techniques in order to determine the components responsible for their aroma. These analyses were compared with the headspace analysis of hay-blossoms used in aromatherapy as ingredients of herbal pillows. The main volatile and therefore “aroma-therapeutically” interesting compounds in the headspace identified were linalool, linalyl acetate, geraniol and coumarin. Small amounts of nerol, citronel-lol, farnesol and nerolidol were also found; however their concentration was very low. In total more than 40 compounds were identified.
