Abstract

A control algorithm utilizing multiple PID blocks to implement a model-based predictive control strategy was tested on a simulated headbox based on data from Weyerhaeuser’s Grande Prairie pulp mill. The simulation shows that the control performance of using multiple PID blocks is comparable to that of advanced model-based control for processes with relatively short time delay.
