Abstract

A head rest for use in a ganglion operation should be easily adjusted and applied to the head, and at the same time hold the head firmly during the operation without producing undue pressure on any particular part of the head. Such a head rest (Figs. 1 and 2) has been developed and used satisfactorily in many ganglion operations. The head rest may be slipped on a Balfour operating table, but if the distance between the bar arms is varied (<i>M</i>, Fig. 1) it will fit any operating table; it is adjusted with two universal joints so that the head can be raised, lowered, or tilted from side to side as the surgeon desires. It is especially designed to support the patient's head, gently yet securely, during a ganglion operation in such a manner that the field of operation is wholly unobstructed.
