Abstract
A simple expression is derived for the velocity of motion of a `head-on boundary` in a thin magnetic layer subjected to a uniform applied magnetic field. Its relevance to magnetization reversal in thin films and transition motion in magnetic recording media is discussed. The expression is modified to apply to non-uniform fields produced by recording heads to define the limiting velocities of recorded transitions before distortions occur to their profiles.
