Abstract
(HCP) 2 is treated as a system composed of two local energy minima, as indicated in recent ab initio calculations. The T-shaped structure is deeper in potential energy than the linear isomer. Rotational-vibrational motions considered in terms of partition functions can however reverse the stability order. The relative-stability interchange takes place at a temperature of either 49 or 105 K, depending on energy values applied.
