Abstract

Assignment of the experimental HCl(B 1Σ + → X 1Σ +) spectrum obtained following ArF laser excitation of vinyl chloride is accomplished by simulation of the spectrum in the region from 199 to 235 nm. It is established from the assignment that the upper state v′, J′ population distribution arises from ArF laser secondary excitation of high vibrational levels of HCl(X 1Σ +) formed in the ArF first photon dissociation of vinyl chloride.
