Abstract

The authors describe the MB86046B home bus protocol controller, which is compatible with the Japan HBS (Home Bus System) standard (ET-2101), responds to layers 1 and 2 of the OSI (Open System Interconnection) reference model, and minimizes the drawbacks inevitable in the circuit structuring of microprocessors. Communication processing time is under 1/20th of the execution time of the microprocessor. The MB86046B provides a secure, reliable system by preventing the reception of incorrect, nonstandard signals (noise) by determining pulse location and width. It automatically restores synchronization if an abnormality occurs, such as deterioration due to external noise, thus ensuring stable operation. By using the controller, the need for a microprocessor dedicated to HBS communication is eliminated. The MB86046B hardware takes over control responsibilities, making software development easier, regardless of irregular conditions. >
