Abstract

NTRODUCTION: Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) is currently the eading surgical cause of death in premature infants. We have previusly used a neonatal rat model of NEC to show that administration f heparin-binding EGF-like growth factor (HB-EGF) decreases inestinal injury and mortality. Here we utilize HB-EGF knockout KO) mice to examine the effects of HB-EGF loss-of-function on usceptibility to NEC.
