Abstract

Congress, through the Solid Waste Disposal Act (also known as the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act RCRA, PL 94-580), directed the Environmental Protection Agency to develop programs for the management of hazardous and non-hazardous solid wastes. To effect the degree of coordination required of such an endeavor, a committee was formed to prepare and update an Agency wide research strategy. The Solid and Hazardous Waste Research Committee coordinates the efforts of the Office of Research and Development (ORD) with those of the Office of Solid Waste (OSW), the Office of Enforcement (OE), the Office of Water Programs (OWP), the Office of Emergency and Remedial Response (OERR), and the EPA Regional Offices.
