Abstract
Hawaii is starting a new budget biennium that begins in 2023 and ends in 2025. The state board of education also developed a new strategic plan for the period that begins in 2023 and ends in 2029. Teacher shortages, decreased enrollment, a budget shortfall, the recent Maui fire, and the lingering effects of the COVID-19 pandemic are presenting challenges to Hawaii’s education budget.
