Abstract
The Hawailan electric companies the United States in private rooftop solar adoption, with 30% of single-family homes pushing electricity onto the grid. The grid of the future must better accommodate this two-way flow of energy, which is why Hawaiian Electric, Maui Electric, and Hawai'i Electric Light developed a comprehensive grid modernization strategy. Modernizing Hawai'i's Grid for Our Customers was published in August 2017 with input from both customers and stakeholders.
