Abstract

We report on the first 3D calculations using the Walecka model: The ground state shape of the nucleus 24Mg is investigated within the framework of a constrained three-dimensional relativistic mean field Theory. The energy surface is calculated as a function of the quadrupole deformation parameters β and γ, using several parameter sets from the literature. We find a minimum at an axially symmetric prolate deformation, which is in full agreement with recent non-relativistic density dependent Hartree-Fock calculations using Skyrme forces.
