Abstract

This paper outlines new ideas associated with smart solar panels containing an embedded secure processor. This turns individual PV arrays or solar roof tiles into a blockchain node which can generate cryptographic proof regarding the amount of renewable energy it has produced. The processor is based on a smart card chip with an operating system which supports a proprietary blockchain and cryptocurrency payment software stack. The security module which certifies that the metering data has not been altered and manages strong encryption of the various communications links. It also improves resistance to cyberattacks and detects attempts to tamper with a panel from cheating customers.
