Abstract
As busy practitioners we have to be selective in what we read because of the time limitations of our professional lives. Nevertheless, we require diversion, and some reading may help to replenish our batteries, especially after long hours of clinical, administrative, and teaching duties. This is a brief autobiography by Jorge Prieto, MD, former chairman of the Department of Family Practice at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, Ill, and briefly president of the Chicago Board of Health. The book is hard to put down and can be read in one sitting. It is the story of a young refugee from Mexico, a pilgrim who decided to become a physician to help his countrymen in this land.
